Procedures
The Principal is the designated privacy
officer for West Eyreton School and is responsible for:

Ensuring compliance with the Privacy Act
1993.

Handling information requests.

Giving assistance to the Privacy
Commissioner in any investigations under the Act.
Key Tasks:
The key tasks of the privacy officer are
to:

Educate all
staff and Board members on the 12 information privacy principles,
attached to these procedures, and what compliance means.

Document
where files are kept and what security will apply.
-
Establish
whether information kept by the school is accurate and is not being
kept longer than is necessary.

Ensure that
when parents/caregivers and staff are asked to fill out any forms
which collect information that it is explained to them:

The
purpose for which the information is being collected
-
Who has
access to the information
-
Where the
information will be stored
-
An
individual’s right to correct the information.
-
Inform all
staff members of the procedures for accessing the information held.

Follow the
checklist for Information Requests under the Privacy Act, attached
to these procedures.
Board of Trustees Responsibilities:
-
Monitoring
that the principles attached to the collection, storage, and use of
information are being applied

Ensure that
the school is meeting the requirements of the Privacy Act
-
Ensure that
the full Board minutes do not identify individuals in relation to
employment, enrolment or discipline. These matters must be taken
in-committee
